Network Technical

The San Bernardino County Innovation and Technology Department (ITD) Enterprise Infrastructure Division is seeking skilled contractors to join our Network Operations Team on a temporary basis. The contractors will directly support or assist with deployment, troubleshooting, maintenance, inventory/surplus management of network equipment and other duties related to upkeep of network infrastructure. The ideal candidate(s) will have a strong background in networking, with hands-on experience in supporting and maintaining complex network systems.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Network Infrastructure and Project Support:

- Assist with deployment and configuration of network devices such as switches and wireless access points.  (MDF/IDF Network equipment, switches, and potentially Aruba to Meraki Wi-Fi refreshes)

 

Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:

- Perform triage of support desk tickets; diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues.

 

Maintenance:

- Assist with performing maintenance of switches and routers, including patching, IOS updates, etc.

 

Inventory and Surplus:

- Wipe/erase configurations from old equipment, updating/maintaining inventory management system, assisting with disposal of surplus equipment.

 

Monitoring:

- Monitor network equipment and WAN circuits, engaging equipment vendors and service providers for problem resolution.

 

Experience, Skills, Requirements

  • Must have 3+ years of hands-on experience working with Cisco/Meraki switches, routers, and related network technologies in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with wireless technologies.
  • Strong understanding of network routing protocols, IP addressing, VLANs and other fundamental networking concepts. (OSI, TCP/IP)
  • Proficient with network diagnostic tools.
  • Understanding of network security principles and firewalls.
  • Knowledge of cloud networking is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Available for occasional after-hours or weekend work.
